Armstrong defines “catting” as “putting your human agenda away, having no expectations or destination.”

“Your job is to follow, protect, keep safe,” Armstrong says. “Your reward is experiencing nature at a slower pace, from a different perspective, in a new light. Observe, protect, enjoy, and be led to new discoveries you likely would have missed otherwise.”

Whether they’re catting, climbing, or camping, Armstrong says safety is always a priority, and he keeps Millie’s harness on even though he does occasionally let her off leash. “Millie is an indoor kitty,” he says. “So when I take her on trips, I do not let her wander out of my sight. I am sure to give her plenty of time to wander freely but I always keep her within view. There are just too many creatures that can harm a domestic cat in nature—coyote, fox, eagle, snake—so I am always there to keep her safe.”
